Celebrating its 46th year, the Atlanta Film Festival is the region’s preeminent celebration of cinema. The organization offers entertainment, networking, education & professional development year-round. The festival itself is one of the largest and longest-running in the region. It is also the most distinguished event in its class, recognized as the ‘Best Spring Festival’ by Atlanta Journal-Constitution, ‘Best Film Festival’ by Creative Loafing, Sunday Paper, 10Best and Atlanta Magazine, as well as one of the ’25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World’ and one of ’50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee’ by MovieMaker Magazine.
The Films We Program
We take pride in the films we program; we’re constantly searching for fresh, innovative, and inspiring means of cinema. As one of only two dozen Academy Award-qualifying events in the country, the Atlanta Film Festival showcases nearly 200 films annually to over 27,000 attendees across a ten-day event each spring. Each year the Atlanta Film Festival receives over 9,000 submissions from 110+ countries across the globe.
This year we had 7786 total film submissions. This included 152 total programmed films, including 27 Feature Films and 124 Short Films.
The 27 Features included:
-
14 Narrative Features
-
13 Documentary Features
-
3 Georgia Features
The 124 Short Films are comprised of:
-
47 Narrative Shorts
-
17 Documentary Shorts
-
12 Animated Shorts
-
24 short-form Georgia films
-
32 Creative Media films (Music Videos, VR, Experimental, Episodic)
Additionally, of the 110 plus countries submitted, 33 countries are represented in the final program.
Lastly, we pride ourselves on being all-inclusive and local as well. We have 152 films directed by women + non-binary, BIPOC, and Georgia residents. This consists of:
-
56% BIPOC directed
-
53% women+ non-binary directed
-
74% of the total lineup programmed from submissions directed by women/non-binary and/or BIPOC filmmakers
-
18% of the total lineup programmed from submissions are Georgia films (27 films)
